research question (draft)
Navigating through the packed metropolis, a solitary backpack-laden figure weaves through the crowd. Out the corners of eyes, they watch, as I retreat from their gazes. In the context of the global terrorism, frequenting mainstream media are notions of the individual as a threatening outsider. Concurrently, the proliferation of portable technologies drives an ideal of the modern citizen. New media artworks – from the emerging field of wearables – and interactive installations provide immersive environments for intimate first-person experiences. How do media-embodiments and enhanced spaces alter perceptions and aid in developing an awareness of the outsider’s position within the current socio-political climate?
